Diskit Monastery, Ladakh

This was the last day in Leh. I visited Diskit monastery before leaving Nubra valley. Diskit Monastery also known as Deskit Gompa or Diskit Gompa is the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, northern India. It belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is the largest and the oldest surviving monastery in Nubra Valley, was founded by Changzem Tserab Zangpo, a disciple of Tsong-kha-pa. The Gompa stands atop a hill right above the flood plains of the Shayok River. There is  100 foot high Maitreya statue there too.
