Rare Baluchari sari exhibition in Mumbai

These are saris with intricate motifs handwoven on them. You can also see one here. These motifs are of bygone era. They tell a story of 18th and 19th century. These are Bengal handwoven saris with motifs on their pallus.
There will be a month long exhibition at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya from December 12. The woven archives, from 23 masterpieces, display the rare Baluchari style from TAPI collection, Surat. There was a time when every self-respecting Bengali bride had a Baluchari sari tucked away in her cupboard. These motifs are not zari but mulbery silk. These designs go beyond being only decorative. They tell a story.
